Initially, officials reported that the plane was carrying two passengers, with at least one resident of the affected homes unaccounted for.
Footage from KGW-TV in Portland showed one townhouse engulfed in flames while thick black smoke billowed from the adjacent buildings. Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis confirmed that the fire had spread to at least four homes, displacing up to six families. Two people received medical attention at the scene, but the specifics of their injuries were not disclosed.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the downed aircraft as a twin-engine Cessna 421C. The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Troutdale Airport, roughly 30 minutes east of Portland.
As the plane went down, it struck a utility pole and power lines, sparking a separate brush fire in a nearby field, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The aircraft broke into multiple pieces upon impact in the residential area of Fairview, a city with a population of about 10,000 people.
